Op-code (operation code)
A standardized code in the DMS and scheduler for a specific service operation, with a time estimate and pricing attached.
Assigning the right op-codes when the appointment is booked lets the shop plan capacity and quote accurately. AI schedulers attach op-codes from what the customer describes.
In practice
Op codes standardize labor operations on the repair order (for example an oil change, a tire rotation or a brake inspection) so time, pricing and reporting are consistent. Schedulers use op codes to size appointments correctly and load the shop.
Why it matters for booking
Booking the wrong op code means the wrong time slot, the wrong technician and an unhappy customer. An AI or agent that books service has to map what the customer says to the right op code and duration.

How many op codes should a dealership have?
Enough to schedule accurately, few enough to use consistently. Many stores keep a focused bookable list for the scheduler and a longer internal list.
